WELCOME and many thanks to craftyc for creating the new album with XPAN
images .
I hope there are more images to come from XPAN users , especially from OZ .

Jürgen

I totally agree Jurgen. Great to see more XPan images get posted.

Here are 2 I took of a new pedestrian bridge build outside my backdoor in Melbourne. I'll add them to the album.

The second is my favourite.

Very nice images Simon and I too think the one on the right is the better shot.

An XPAN is certainly on my wishlist and when I can track one down it won't be a hard decision to hand over the cash!!! In the meantime I'll just have to content myself with drooling over the images :z04_sabber: and be patient while I wait to try one out!!!!:z04_photos:

Yes Simon
The right image is great .

It must be the bridge over troubled water .
At least , now we know , where you are hanging around in the nights .
Thank you for showing the images .

What is on the other side of the bridge ?
The HASSELBLAD dealer ? No , his shop will be closed by that time .

Jürgen

Thanks for the comments. Yes the image on the right probably appeals because it's a bit more "conventional" or what we expect to see. I prefer it too - it tells more of a story.

I'll post a 3rd that is very "different" and will be interested to hear comments.

One thing I have learnt with the XPan and panorama photography in general is to be very careful not to make the image look like a "slice" of a whole image - i.e. it seems to be missing a bottom, or a top or a bit of both. I learnt the hard way this after realising an otherwise nice image of a cathedral's interior had "no legs to stand on" - it was a slice and hit viewers as being so - not a good composition!!

And Jurgen the "troubled waters' have settled!! Wow did we have a raging story run up the river this afternoon! So much sea entered the harbour and then the river that the river is now green!

The "Hasselblad store" on the other side is a wonderful new Convention and Visitors Centre - a stunning collection of architecture and remarkable interior design. Here is a link to a photo gallery: http://www.mcec.com.au/About/MCEC-Complex/Gallery.html

PS: One thing I was reminded of is that YOU CANNOT BEAT GOOD SLIDE FILM!!

Stay tuned!

Thanks.

Here is the third image. I used the near structural "hoops" to frame the "hoops" at the other end of the bridge. I liked the framing but sadly the lighting at the other end isn't quite strong enough. But it was a fun idea to play with to try something different.

I'll be interested to see what you all think.

That little 45mm lens is certainly a treasure and the effective angle of view equivalent to 25mm to my eyes is perfect for panoramas. :)

Great Images Simon

Like all 3 - it's a great sujet - personally I like the light in the 1st one the most - am very fond of that twilight period.
Look forward to seeing more - maybe it's time for our Xpan to go traveling....
Cheers, S

Many thanks S.

Interestingly I keep coming accross people who have sought out and bought XPans - it seems to becoming an all-time classic! Quality always wins in the end! :)
Cheers.

Thanks Simon, fantastic use of the 45 mm and the xpan format - great composition. IO don't have a cable release for mine - did you use timer and auto exposure?

Many thanks for your kind coment.

I've been slack lately and have a whole bunch more I must post soon.

Mostly I us a cable release if I have one to hand. But otherwise, yes just the time delay is fine so long as you carefully watch the scene for any slight change.

Regards.

Thanks for the kind comment. Actually I have a bunch more to post so have been a bit slack lately.

Yes, I typically use a cable release but often use the time release if necessary. When I do that I keep a careful eye on the scene should something momentarily change during the time release.

Cheers.

Hi Simon

Am looking forward to more of your photos.
Am spoilt by my D700 .... instant gratification..... need to take the Xpan out again.

Best regards

Germany in XPan panorama

Finally here are some XPan shots taken while in Germany last July. What a joy that trip was for 3 reasons - and not necessarily in this order:

1. My first visit to Germany - I loved every minute of the 3 weeks! From Berlin all the way down to Sonthofen it was amazing. The Germans were blessed with the best summer in a long time - not one day was below 28C and the maximum was 38C!!

2. It was initiated by my son who has been a Qantas 747 pilot for 3 years and had a double roster t/from Germany, so I travelled with him. It was my first trip with him on duty, which was a very touching joy.

3. I finally got to meet Jurgen and we spent the best part of 10 days together - travelling and seeing much of the glorious south while based in Sonthofen.

So, 1 image was shot from the 747 as the afternoon light started to appear.
Another is from my cruise on the Rhine from Mainz and the others in Berlin and Heidelberg.

There are others from other beautiful places as Jurgen will confirm, so I'll post them soon.

And yes, while I decided to travel photographically "light" - 50D kit - the XPan was a must take item. Just before the trip I joined a friend in acquiring a Lumix LX3 (now that shocks some who know me because I have always sworn I'd never touch a P&S digi-cam; but, this camera is SENSATIONAL! It was so handy for days I just wanted to take snap-shots. The ability to shoot 3:2; 4:3; 16:9 and 1:1 is a great bonus.

Cheers.

Hi Jurgen!
Thanks for creating this Thread for X-PAN images, I have a question
about the maximum size for posting. I think the images we see in here is too small and they are like thumb nails. I respect the rules of course and I truly believe the images make out of Hasselblad is very different and unic. So they must look especial in viewing anywhere specially in this forum itself.
Xpan photos are very extraordinary and they should be displayed some more bigger than we see them here.:D
