New P20 Back and Camera body Calibration

Hi forum

My name is Hubert. This is my first post here on the forum, but I must say I have benefited lots from following it in the past couple of years. So first of all let me thank you all for so generously sharing your knowledge. I shoot with a 500cm setup with the 50/80/150 lens combo. My site is here at: http://www.hubertphoto.com

I have recently acquired an used P20 back for my 500CM. Not surprisingly, with the help with digital I am seeing that my camera body is perhaps out of alignment, Every single picture comes out blurry, regardless the lens, shutter speed, or aperture, except perhaps the problem being more serious on the 50mm. it's test on a tripod.

Here are my questions:

- The Phase One manual says to place the screen mask under the ground glass. I can see that the mask isn't resting on the 4 tiny screws under the glass, therefore maybe not adding any thickness between the ground glass and mirror. Is it safe to say then that the mask isn't the problem?

- My camera body was CLAed last year in Vancouver by one of the very reputable technicians here in town. I was wondering if adjustments for film backs is any different from that for digital backs? Do I need to send the camera body to any special repair service to make the body "digital ready"? If that's the case, do I go to Phase One because it's their back, or Hasseblad because it's their body? If I do this, will I make the digital back only compatible with this body because of the adjustments? Will the adjustments render the film backs out of focus?

Thanks very much guys. I will appreciate any thoughts on this!

I recommend placing the mask on top of the ground glass.

There are three areas on the camera body that could cause an issue with regards to focus.

1. Focusing screen height
2. Mirror alignment
3. Body alignment

I would advise having your camera body checked by a Hasselblad technician to insure that it falls within factory specification.

Hi Paul

Thanks very much for your help. It's great to have the questions answered directly by Hasselblad. I reckon since there isn't a Hasselblad Canada, I need to send this to New Jersey? How much would a tune-up like this cost?

Cheers, Hubert

I had the same problem a few years ago and a full service fixed it, that means replacing all the foams etc. basically disassembling and reasembling the body. so a simple CLA will not fix this problem/./..

Paul Claesson:

how much is a full service from hasselblad Europe?

Thanks

CS, You will have to check with your local authorized Hasselblad service center in your country for overhaul pricing. I work at Hasselblad USA and work closely with the service center in New Jersey.
