MacBook Pro 13" on Phocus

Hi all, has anyone tried to use the current MacBook Pro 13" (either configuration--Intel Core i5 or i7) on the current version of Phocus? With 4 or 8gb of RAM? In addition, anyone used it with H3Dxx or H4D tethered, were there issues or quirks? I am currently using a H3DII-31. Thank you for your help.

Not sure this will help - I'm using a MacBook Pro 17" with 2.2. GHz i7 and 8GB Ram.
It works fine in tethered mode with either a CFV-50 or a H3D-31 (provided you use the correct camera / DB firmware).

I would imagine the 13" would work equally fine - juts go for the top of the range machine.

Works fine...

Hi there.

Focus definitely works with the new mbp's. I'm running it on a 15" i7 late 2011 model. 8gig ram.

Initially things were fine, but I've noticed a huge drop in speed and performance using the Phocus software. The HD isn't full and there are no other programs running. When compared to Bridge, focus runs about 500% slower. If I wasn't shooting tethered I wouldn't bother with the Hassi software on set. It's very poorly programmed.

Best.

I don't think that it's poorly programmed at all. Hasselblad have always said that Phocus makes extensive of graphics RAM, and have advised users to use fast graphics cards.. My experience is that anything less than 512MB graphics RAM is unusable.

MBP 13 and Phocus

a word of warning re the MBP 13" and phocus - because the 13" doesn't have much in the way of graphics RAM Phocus can struggle on them.

Curious Jmm as to what is going on with your setup - for us it's the other way around (MBP 17's , 1 GB VRAM, 8GB RAM, i7). Bridge is a pain, Phocus is fast - especially for speed from camera to screen. we shoot canon in studio too, which brings a whole new meaning to slow when tethered.

For what it's worth, from the testing we have done, Phocus seems to have the best colour engine for Hassy files - I'm happy for it to be a bit slower to give me the best results,

cheers

my setup...

Honestly I don´t know what the issue is.

My Set-up is 15" MBP late 2011. (1 GB VRAM, 8GB RAM, i7). Everything is brand new. Its just that Phocus is a serious drag to use on set. By this point I really go out of my way to not have to use it. Unfortunately, its the only program I can use if I want to tether.

I was thinking that it might be a cache issue, but I haven´t found any way to purge the cache in Phocus. Maybe its something else – any ideas??? I´m grateful for any help.

Since I don´t do conversions on location - except to check focus, I don´t really care about how precise the colors on set are. They´ll be messed around with in the Post anyway.

best,

jmm
