Well I went for it.
I purchased a used H3D-39 body 12000 actuations 2 batteries for $6500.00
I hope I didn't pay to much.
Anyways I need to buy some lenses now.

I am use to working with 18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm lenses on my D3x.

What would be the equivalent on with the HC lenses?

I would like to start with 3 lenses.

I was either thinking the HC28, HC50, and HC100 or HC150mm
or instead of getting the 100 or 150 get the 80mm and the 1.7 tc.

or just get the HCD28mm and the 50-110mm zoom?
How does the zoom compare to the primes when shooting at f8-F16?

Any suggestions??

Thanks
Steven

With my H1 I have the classic group 50mm, 80mm and 150mm and find I can do most anything I want. I have recently purchased the 1.7x for when I want something longer but have not tried it yet. I tend not to use wide angles that much. If you lean that way you may want to get the 35mm instead of the 50mm. Enjoy your new camera!

Welcome to the club Steven!

You most certainly did NOT pay to much. Excellent deal IMO.

Look to the HCD 28/4 for the widest field of view available.

The 50-110 is very very good with excellent reviews all around ... but that lens is just too huge for me. Not really a hand-held lens IMO. In fact, both Zooms are to big IMO.

I prefer the 50 and 100/2.2 ... with the 100/2.2 being one of the reasons I got into the H system in the first place. It's an absolutely stellar optic. Beautiful Bokeh.

The other lens I like is the 210/4 ... also superb out of focus areas.

Add the 1.7X and the 100/2.2 = 170/3.8 that focuses down to 0.9 meters (under 3 feet away) ... and the 210/4 = 350/6.8 that focus down to 1.8 meters (under 6 feet away).

Note: the 1.7X is not compatible with the 28mm.

Everything above is 77mm filter threads except the 28.

Thanks Marc.

I know that 50-110mm is a monster, but since I am always on a tripod shooting landscape do you feel it's still an issue?

I know the 100mm is stellar but I'm not sure how it fits into my landscape needs more of a hand held people portrait lens.

If you only shot on a tripod, would you still prefer the 50,80,100mm primes over the zoom?

The 28mm I am for sure getting.

In that case, I'd get the 28, 35-90 and whichever longer lens interests you.

Thinking ahead, if you are interested in T/S, check which lenses work with the HTS 1.5

Can't go wrong with the 50-110 however. It's a great optic.

Marc

Marc,
Yeah the 35-90mm would be perfect but way out of my price range. I just found someone who will sell me both the 28, and 50-110mm for $4850.00 almost new condition. I think that is a good deal. Then I can save my pennies for either the 210 or 300mm..
I know I will never be hand holding the 50-110 though oh well I am glad a just purchased a cube!!

I use the 50 - 110 all of the time now for my landscape work, and I have rarely found its weight to be an issue. Sure, it all gets pretty heavy after a long day, I carry the HD3 plus 50 -100 plus the 28mm in my bag, but it is not that bad. From a hand holding point of view, I have not had a problem with the 50 - 110. It balances very nicely, and it is hard to imagine that this lens weighs in at 1.6kg when you are shooting. I sometimes use a tripod, but quite often find that I don't really need one..depending upon shutter speed obviously. My pictures are all sharp and I prefer my Hassie to any of the 35mm kit that I own. Just takes a little getting used to. My 35mm Nikons plus lenses are now the step-children in my photographic bag!

Regards

David

I´m not sure if you already bought the lenses, but I can tell you that I use my 50-110 lens all the time without a tripod - little bit heavy but still workable. Outstanding optical quality!
Use it for all my shoots together with the 35mm

Seems like a great price to me, wish I could get one for that sort of money. I have recently purchased the 50-110 (from a user here) and am really happy with it. If you go to my Flickr the recent images from Swell Sculpture Festivak are all with this lens.

I also have the 80, 150 & 210 and they are all excellent.
