How to Release Winding Slot in V System Extension Tube?

I just picked up a 21mm extension tube for the V system on Ebay and though it appears in excellent condition, the "winding slot" (for lack of a better term) is preventing it from mounting to the 500. The problem appears to be that the slot is wound just past the red dot. If I could "release" that slot and manually re-cock it, perhaps I could get it lined up. Any solutions on how to safely "trigger" an extension tube?
