Hi everybody. Merry Christmas to you all.
I am Utomo Tjipto. Originally from Jakarta - Indonesia, now I am posted at Kabul. Just joined this forum.

I use 500c/m with 80mm lens, usually to take pictures of my wife or the landscape of Aceh or Timor. I still use B/W film, because a digi back for Hassy is still out of reach at the moment.

Am still saving to buy 180mm for my 500c/m. Actually this is what I want to ask. I read that in 500c/m when I use a lens longer than 100mm, I will get a dark shade in the viewfinder. How bad is the dark shade? Will it affects the composition?

Due to a small mirror in 500 C and 500 CM bodies part of the image is missing on the focusingscreen of the camera when using lenses longer than 150 mm.
This vignetting can also occur with certain macro applications.

The film will be exposed completely. Vignetting only shows on the focusing screen.

The 180 mm Sonnar is quite a different lens compared to the 150 Sonnar. It features more contrast and more detail.
The 180 Sonnar would not be my first choice for portraits.
The first body in the 500 series to receive the larger mirror that does not suffer from vignetting is the 501CM.
Please note the 501C does not have the new larger mirror.
The larger mirror was first fitted to bodies of the 2000 series.
Later Hasselblad introduced the name for these mirrors.
The larger mirror is called gliding mirror system or GMS.
