Hasselblad V96C??

Hello all,

I'm currently a 501CM user and want to get a digitalback, wondering if it is still worth it to invest in a V96C? Other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I went for the CFV-16 you can get them at a decent price these days and they still produce fantastic files, Square crop sensor and very portable, they blend in perfectly with the styling of the Blad.

The V96C is a good digital back. It does come with an Image Bank (40GB) which is tethered to the V96C. This particular back was announced in Sept 2004 and available until approx March 2006.

The CFV16 replaced the V96C and offered portability, use of CF cards. The back incorporated a Firewire 800 port and was modeled after the A magazine with leatherette appearance and chrome trim.

Both products offered the 2nd generation 16mp sensor.

Are there any differences in electronics that will give a better image quality to the later CFV compared to V96C?

Found that the dynamic range of the V96C still compares favorably to new digital SLRs.

Yes, there most certainly is new circuitry in the CFV and also an improved TFT display vs the V96C. Both capture 16 bit vs. DSLR are capturing in 14 bit.

First, the 16mp CCD (2nd generation) is the same in both the V96C and CFV.
The improvements in image quality (noise being one) occur in firmware and software updates. The last V96C was produced in early 2006 upon the introduction of the CFV. The firmware has continued to be updated for the CFV, CFV39 and is currently at R267, January 2011. That said, images from either back will benefit from using the latest software, Phocus 2.6.6 (Mac) -2.6.4 (PC) and Flexcolor 4.8.13 (Mac) - 4.8.9 (PC).

Reviewing the read me files for the software will provide a great deal of information regarding: New functions, IQ improvements and bug fixes.
