Hasselblad 503 CW - Left hand grip

Hello, i'm new in this forum that i have just discovered.

I hope you can help me. I have been in french forum and nobody can help me ! (yes, i'm french but i suppose you already figured out with all the faults i have done in this message! sorry for that).

Well my problem is that i've just bought a hasselblad 503CW and i am looking for a left hand grip. Here and there i 've read that the 45169 fits but it is very expensive ! Some said that the 45072 fits too but no one has try or is sure!

So perhaps, someone can help me here and tell me if the 45072 left hand grip fits for the 503CW ?

Thank you very much.

I had an array or these hand grip and just sold the newer one one month ago.
The bad point is the screew that enter in the body. The 503CW is just smaller and this for it's impossible to use older type.

You got two chances:

During production of the 503CX Hasselblad decided to change the bottom end of the camera.

If your 503CX does not have the rubber strips along the sides you have the early bottom.
Check the size of the tripod nut. It should be 3/8 to accept early grips.
If it turns out to be the smaller 5/16 size you can change the tripod nut for the larger 3/8 one.

Not 5/16" but 1/4" UNC. In other words, the 'standard' tripod thread size.

I also read somewhere that the foot on the later models was also different, either wider or taller or something that would not allow it to slide into the older grips.

I tried putting a CX into to the old tripod holder and it would not slide into place, too big.

Do you all know if this is also an issue in addition to the screw size?

I want to convert an ELM dual grip and need it to work with both the CM and the CX.

Thanks for your inputs....

It would help if you show a pic of the bottom end of the 503CX you have.

The 500CM should accept the dual grip without any problem.

Here is the pic of the 503cx bottom. Another question, does anyone know of a dual handled grip that could be used for the modern cameras?

Any dual handled grip I've seen has a 3/8" attachment screw. The bottom of your 503CX tripod mount is 1/4". No go.

You can change the 1/4 thread in your camera for a 3/8 Thread.
Hasselblad supplies the 3/8 nut as a separate part.
With a suitable screwdriver you can fix this in a couple of minutes.

I received the part yesterday from Hasselblad. Took about five minutes to take out the old 1/4" adapter and put in a 3/8" adapter. Total of 8 very small screws. Now the 503cx fits my old grip.

Total cost was $21 plus UPS shipping. Sure is a lot cheaper than having to buy a new grip, etc. Now I can use my CM and CX interchangeably.
