Hasselblad 500 Series: Focus Screen Type?

Kitt

New Member
Hello All,

I have a question about my focus screen on my Hasselblad 500CM. The VHPICTURES serial number indicates that it was manufactured in 1973. I have been using this camera with great success for the past 13 years now and I am trying to identify the type of focus screen that came with this particular camera.

The two pictures below show a plastic screen, matte coating on the bottom, shiny on the top. There is a 15mm circular magnifier in the centre, it is not a split image prism. There are no other original markings or indications on the screen. You will see rule of thirds pencil markings I added myself to the screen to aid in my compositions, but that is it.

Any ideas?

Look forward to reading all the responses.

Thanks,

Kitt

According to RICHARD NORDINS HB COMPENDIUM the screen seems to be the 42250 .
Please see the right column of the attached image . Position 3 .
I hope this helps .

Good day jotloob,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I really appreciate your feedback. I came across a link to the HB COMPENDIUM in my search, but did not go into such detail. I have reviewed your attached image, and using this information, I came across a focus screen that looks exactly like the one I currently have. I have attached a picture below. The description reads 42234.

Sorry, I am not very experienced with my computer phone. What I meant to continue to say is, do you agree with the description of the attached pictures, that indeed this focus screen is 42234. In my research, I have come across incorrect product numbers for specific Hasselblad parts, especially on eBay.

Thanks,

Kitt

Hello Kitt

The screen you showed when opening this thread , has grid lines and therefore is most likely 42250 .
The screen you show in your answer has NO grid lines and is NOT 42250 but 42234 .
Conclusion : The two screens are not the same .

Hi jotloob,

I see the difference in the two screens. Based on your information, I am confident that I have the 42234 screen. The grid lines that are on the original pictures I posted are pencil line I added myself to aid in composition.

I want to thank you for help.

Thank you for your feedback and the clarification . I find gridlines extremely helpful .
Attached , you will find an image of RICHARD NORDIN's HASSELBLAD COMPENDIUM .
It shows the second version , which also includes detailed info for the H-SYSTEM .
The first version , which I also have , holds only information about the V-SYSTEM .
It's a must for the HASSELBLAD freak .
