H5D? Any News/Rumours

Is there any news/rumours about a new model HD5? The historical timeline so far has been:

2002 - H1 Launched
2005 - H2 Launched
2007 - H3 Launched
2009 - H4 Launched
2011 - ???

I'm looking to buy my first Hasseleblad (currently selling my 35mm outfit) so I don't wont to buy a H4D for it just to be superceded in a months time.

So will Hasselblad be launching a new model H5D? at Photokina 2011??

Go ahead and buy the H4D.
Nothing indicates that Hasselblad is even thinking about a new model.
Digital imaging has reached the point that no important changes are likely to take place.

Does your application benefit from the upgrade the H4D offers compared to a H3D50 Mp?
Or is it just your wish to have the most recent camera?

Newer is always better or ... ?

Thanks for the responses, I've looked at the H3D & H4D models, unfortunately the H4D is the only model available in the UK based upon the websites I've visited so far.

With the H2, H3 & H4 being released every 2x years and its now 2yrs since the H4 was launched, hence my query regarding H5D?

All of my previous photographic experience has been with 35mm, the likes of Nikon/Canon etc, offer cashbacks on models usually when they want to clear/reduce stock before they launch a new model.

Taking into account the 2x year launches & Hasselblad's cashback loyalty offer, this is why I'm wondering if a H5D will be launched at Photokina-2011 in September.

If a H5D is launched then the H4D might be discounted at retailers to clear "Old Stock".

I'll in no immeadiate hurry to buy as I'm currently selling my 35mm outfit.

If you are not in a hurry to buy it is no problem to wait for the H5D if
that camera will appear at all.

Last changes for H cameras were essential to some users like the improved AF operation.
Do not expect major changes for H series cameras.
Unless you regard a further increase of pixel count as an important upgrade.
The H4D50MS offers the equivalent of 200 Mp for studio work.

I am also waiting for "H5" - with 80 or more MPix. Not reasonable, but I would like it.
Because I don`t really need the "True Focus" of the H4, I bought a H3DII-50 (which had 4.000 Shots) for Half-Price. First, I wanted to upgrade to a H4D60, but for me the Difference is too small for the lots of Euros.
It is my first digital-Camera - I use it for learning to do Digital-Photo.
I hope, that Hasselblad will have a Trade-In-Offer to upgrade.

I am waiting for a H5D FF with 40 mp maximum , or nothing

You may be waiting ... forever. So it'll probably be "or nothing" for you.

IMO, waiting is a huge waste of time IF you are buying gear to take photographs with. I'd hazard a guess that with-in a few years, the smallest back available from Hasselblad will be FF 50 meg.

The value is in the using, not in speculating on futures like soy beans. Something better will arrive ... the question is ... better for what and for who? Many people who buy these mega resolution cameras never realize the full benefits because they do not understand the consequences.

There are those who want such cameras and have a true need for them, but they are in the minority of those who actually can use what they are capable of.

Hasselblad has new owners that have vowed to inject more capital into the company's future. I think the next step will startle the photo world ... but it may take awhile.
