I just acquired a used H4D-31 from KEH but it doesn't seem to have the electronic level. Is this just a function of the higher megapixel H4Ds or is something wrong with mine? I have the latest firmware for this camera and sensor.
Trust me, you aren't missing a lot. After griping about this long and hard, the reality is that a bubble level remains the best solution. The default setting is not accurate so you have to calibrate it first. Guess what you need to calibrate it with. Once you get this done, try turning it on a tripod that should be level and watch it move. It's more useful as a lava lamp.
The odd thing is that my new OM D has a spirit level which is accurate without calibration. It's just there in the viewfinder, the same as the Fuji X100. It would appear that 'cool looking' is all that it has going for it.
