H3DII-60 Insights

Hello,

I am interested in anything known about the new H3DII-60 such as sensor type (i.e.. Is it the same kodak sensor or a Dalsa sensor like the one used in the Phase P65+?), new features, etc. In general, is this a new H3D with just 10mp more coverage or are there new features that we should expect?

I'm asking because I am eligible for a free upgrade to the 60mp version because I purchased an H3DII-50 when I traded in my Phase P45+ and I would like to know if I should take it or just stay with the beast I know even though Hasselblad didn't deliver on the advertised feature of live view.

BTW, I am extremely satisfied with the H3DII-50 otherwise and would only want to better the experience. All comments would be welcome.

Thanks,

It going to be the Dalsa sensor... were all holding our breathes cause i know the 50 got the reds right with collaboration with the two companies..kodak and hassy. but Dalsa is going to be a new ball game..i do not know if i am going to trade the reds for just 10 megabytes more...and further its not enough time ..for that upgrade program they have 90 days to trade up your sensor i think you have to pay up 8k+...meaning you send your 50 in and the upgrade it to the 60...i dont have any clue on the turn around time.

I have the option to upgrade also. Although I couldn't be happier with the 50 - its tempting. Will call my UK dealer on Monday to see what the damage on the wallet will be. Seem to recall £4K since I bought pre the price increase.

Fortunately, I took advantage of the promotion of trading in my Phase P45+ when I purchased the H3DII-50 so I'm supposed to get the upgrade for free. So Paul, are you saying that I have to send it in to Hasselblad USA for the upgrade and not my dealer?

BTW, what is the release date for the H3DII-60?

Yes, you will need to make arrangements with our Hasselblad USA, Redmond, WA Headquarters to send in your H3DII50 camera body and digital magazine. These will be forward to Denmark for 60mp sensor installation, recalibrated for Ultrafocus and returned. This process takes approx 3 weeks.

I do not have a definitive release date for the H3DII60. When I do I will be sure to post it.

Thanks Paul. Is there a number or contact that I should communicate with in an attempt to get lined up to have this upgrade done as soon as it's announced?

If you have signed up for our Hasselblad USA Newsletter, you will be notified that the H3DII60 has started shipping. You can work directly with your dealer from whom you purchased the camera from to arrange the shipping and communication with our Redmond office or contact Hasselblad USA directly at 425-861-6434.

Not sure why anyone needs 60 mpxl's. I think you need to be realistic about editing/working images this size. But, of course, the end use is the critieria and if you need 40" x 50" prints - so be it.

50 to 60 will be incremental in terms of system resources. In the time the 50 has been out, processing and storage costs will have improved significantly greater than that increment. Not that I'm trying to find excuses or anything.....

Hello GWDhalen,

Welcome at Hasselbladinfo forum.
Thanks for posting.

I can name one good reason to go 60 MP besides resolution:
Larger sensor giving less lens factor.
I suppose that could be an important consideration to move to 60 MP.
