H3Dii 31 mp

Hi, I'm looking into my first Hassy, Particulary this model.
My question is this, If i was to take a photo with a Nikon D3x and the Hassy described above and printed it out only at A4 would i still see a sharper better photo? What i am trying to say is that do people only use medium format for printing large or is it still beneficial even for small prints? I must also mention that it would be used a lot indoors under controlled lighting and occasionally landscapes.
Thanks,
Matt

Resolution is not the only parameter to judge the quality of a camera system.

Similar to the difference between 35 mm film and roll film MF digital gives images more of a 3D look.

To make a decision based on first hand experience why not rent a H3D 31 MP camera with a suitable lens and do some tests.
That will convince you of the gain possible with MF digital.
A good Pro Shop should be able to help you with this.

I'll save you the trouble. I have both cameras. The Hassey images will look better at any size print. Basically because the resolution to pixel pitch ratio is so high with the H camera ... smaller prints effectively create their own micro contrast and tonal gradations are more subtile and gradual.

D3 and H3DII-31

While I do not own the D3x, I do own the D3 and D700. Recently I rented an H3DII-31 for a few jobs which were piggy backed on the same weekend.... was able to justify it, because it was for 'business'...

I became so obsessed by the image quality that I regretted returning it.... The flesh tones ( they talk about this in their sales pitch) are clearly superior... as well as the color/detail in all areas.....

Fast forward a day or so after returning the unit and a local dealer had a promo where they were selling the H3DII at a huge savings.... it was a show special... so I went through my closet, sold what I didn't need and came up with enough cash to pick one up before the offer expired....

I only have the 80mm lens and that will have to do until I earn enough to add to it. For now, I just rent them when needed.

There is a small learning curve to get decent images.... however you have to stay on your toes... because there is only one center focus point for auto focus... and you have to pay close attention to focus, then recompose... we get lazy with multi focus point cameras....

I have owned the H system film cameras, but it was so frustrating trying to get them processed then scanned, etc....

I guess I'm saying that it is definitely an upgrade to my D3 and from the images I have seen online, the color is purer and sharper than even the D3X. If your computer is not state of the art, then be prepared to have to upgrade your computer as well, if you process huge amounts at a time..... get all the power and ram you can afford.....

flickr and the new H3DII-31 group

I started a group on Flickr... you can search for Hasselblad H3DII-31. I would love it if you have any images you'd like to add to this group. Hasselblad digital is not well represented there and I would like to have a place where we can refer people if they want to see samples.....

Sounds great, I will only be able to afford the package with the 80mm also but would love the macro lens someday, Also the tilt shift adaptor. Just gotta get rid of my 5D mk2, 600mm F4 is, Wimberley mk2 and Gitzo 5541 with assorted bits n bobs then i can trade in and get my Hassy

What is wrong with Hasselbladinfo forum as a place to upload images?

For club members we offer the largest upload facility that is more than twice what you will get elsewhere: 1200x1200 pixels or 585 kb whichever comes first.
