Hello all.

I've been absent for some weeks - most recently because I got to take some time out in the outback with my shooting buddy. It's something we try to do 2 times a year but alas we seem to average once each 9 months only!

Anyway after recovering from a bad health period we got away and I managed to shoot some rolls of 6x6 and Xpan which I hope to get back from the lab this weekend. We traveled about 3,000kms.

IMPORTANTLY, a treasured roll of Ektar 100 Jurgen so kindly sent me (still not available here down under) got used and I am really looking forward to seeing the scans! I heard a pro shooter podcast and the consensus was that Ektar is THE best colour film ever with superb grain that is perfect for scanning. It seems Kodak has a real winner.

The outback is ideal for XPan shooting - often the "bleak" vast horizons lacking the "traditional subject focal point" are best captured and the story is best conveyed in that format. I hope my results live up to that expectation.

I'll be interested to see how the square format portrays the outback too.

I'll post in the appropriate places. Cheers.

Welcome back

Welcome back to the forum .

Simon , I am very pleased to find you back in the forum . I have been missing you and your posts .
Of course we all are curious of the results of your EKTAR 100 shots .
Film is back to where it should be , in your A12 magazine .
And , Simon , there is some good news here . Only wise photographers do not shoot digital . That is what I have learned in the last couple of days .
So, you are one of them . A wise man . Great .

Best regards
Jürgen

Many thanks Jurgen and Terry.

Today I saw the developed Ektar 100 120 film (not scanned yet). The film seems FANTASTIC - I only hope the images do it justice!

BUT I MUST REPORT that a quick look at them with a 5x loupe revealed THE MOST AMAZINGLY FINE GRAIN, SHARPNESS AND DETAIL I HAVE SEEN AND NO EVIDENCE ON ANY GRAIN AT ALL - WOW I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE BIG TIFF FILES AND THEN SOME PRINTS! :)

Hello Simon,

I understand you have to take long trips down under to take beautiful pictures but do not stay away as long as you did.

Glad to hear you are doing OK and I am eager to see more of the new Ektar film from you.
