Eagerly awaiting my 50-110

How have those who use this lens found it? With my main interest being landscape it seems a logical lens for me, and I have read good reports. I cannot get a 35-90 as I only have a H2, however I'll be looking for a 35 in the future.

I bit the bullet and purchased Anton64's second hand lens, advertised on here and a couple of other forums. The postage people told him it shoudl be here on the 20th and that is TOMORROW! Then I have to wait for the Customs letter so I can pay the GST and they can post it to me. Hope to have it for a meet up shoot at Currumbin r=Rocks (a large rock on a rock platform near home) at dawn Sun 29th.

Good for you it all worked out.
I will keep my fingers crossed customs will process your import fast enough
for your lens to arrive before the 29th.
Happy shooting!
Suppose you know this lens is a true heavy weight?

Vic.

I have been out shooting whales with the HC 210 on a heaving boat - I reckon that's getting me in training for it!

I forgot!
Your whale pics were great.

Yes the 210 is a hand full too.

I think the 50-110 makes a better balanced combination.

It's here!

Yep, it's big! And for some reason Customs decided to be kind, they didn't intercept and charge me the 10% GST. Whooppee!

Off to give it a try out now.

Well, I have given the lens a good test today. All pics hand held (it weighs 1.650kg on its own!) but I can manage it OK. I used the on camera flash at a lowish power for most of these.

I went out this morning to a bird feeding at a local sanctuary, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, which has always had bird feeding but you had to pay for the full entry (was $26) to see it. They have recently made it free and I trotted along today to have a look, as we are going on Saturday in a group after a sunrise shoot at the beach.

Boy, is it full on. I have never seen so many lorikeets in one place. It is incredibly hard to get a flight photo. And they need to post a warning, if you do not want to get crapped on, wear a wide brimmed hat! Those lorikeets are as loose as a goose.

One here I am happy with, I was trying for birds in flight but they are very fast. Maybe next time.

And almost a flight shot! Just a bit up and to the right there next time.

Absolute chaos - those plates are full of liquid nectar mix, it goes everywhere.

And a grevillea blossom, snapped outside the sanctuary while I was waiting for it to open.

Nice first shots with the 50-110 Odille.

Guess you had a couple extra trainingsessions at the gym to handle this heavy weight. :z04_carrot::proud::z04_carrot:

Went back to the sanctuary with some friends and here is a pic (taken by one of them - thanks Rodney) of two of the cheeky rosellas PERCHED on my lens. This was a very quick grab as I did not want them to splut on it!
