Back to the Hasselblad stable.

The last two years I've spent playing with a Leica M9. I enjoyed it's portability and the lens and 24 Mpxl sensor has been good. My poor old 205FCC / CFV-16 languished in the dehumidifier cabinet.

A year or two ago I did take a look at the CFV-39 but did not see enough improvement to justify the price, especially given the resale value of the CFV-16. Plus, my credit card was still wounded from the Leica lenses.

The M9 continued to be my camera of choice but, looking at my LIght Room library, both the quality and quantity of my "keepers" reduced. The M9 was not inspiring me to go out image hunting. Never made the RF transition.

But, last night, I woke up at 2am with a thought that just popped into my head, "I want to get back to some top quality photography. Hasselblad!

Today I took a look at some H Series options but once again was scared off by price. I don't need auto-focus. And I could not see an equivalent of my favorite FE110 f2 in the H series lens catalog.

But, then I looked at the CFV-50. It will let me use the camera and lenses that have stood me well over the last 14 years. Removes some of the crop factor of the CFV-16. And gives a deep rich quality image.

So, if all goes to plan, next week in HK I'll be collecting my CFV-50 and getting the 205FCC checked out by the technician.

I look forward to being a 'blad boy again...

Regards
Peter

Welcome back Peter!

I'm sure you'll love the CFV50 - it is an amazing piece of equipment and a pleasure to use with the old blad.

Had the chance to use one last year - and still dreaming of one.

Take care, S.

change of direction, maybe

Having done some more thinking, always a dangerous pursuit, I might be changing my direction.

Yes, I love my old 205FCC and especially that great FE110 lens, but now I'm wondering if I should be investing more money in older technology. In a few years time, if the 205FCC has a problem, no parts will be available. Even the battery is getting harder to find.

So I'm thinking of leaning a bit harder on the credit card, and going for the "equivalent" in the new technology; the H4D-50 with a HC-100 lens.

It seems to have many of the features that I like about the 205FCC; zone metering, spot metering, fine bokeh with the 100 wide open.

Price is a bit daunting but there is a discount available for the next month or so.

Has any of you any good reason why I might regret this, apart from financial...

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter

The H4D does offer a lot of other possibilities, including the 28mm wide-angle, not available for the old V system.

Try one out before you buy - it has a very different feel to the old V.

That said, I really like my H3D, even though at times I long back for the feel of the 503.

Perhaps I'll buy a CFV-39 if I get one at a decent price.

Best

Sinuhe

PS I'm sure Marc, or KeithL will be able to add more and better succinct pointers.
