Australian Outback - through the XPan

I thought I'd post some XPan samples taken in the far NSW outback region here. These depict some of the expanse, bleakness, harshness and diversity of the region.

I'll progressively post some and most were taken with Kodak Ektar 100 with a few shot on Fujichrome Sensia 100.

The pano format is just ideal for the outback as the perspective helps communicate the vastness of the region.

The files might be a bit small but were set up to ease of use over the web. I hope they are big enough.

This first image is "Irrigation versus 10 year drought".

This image was taken en-route to our next stop. We drove for about 1 hour with the scenery unchanged! We were about 100 miles from the nearest town that might have had a population of about 50 people!

For this shot I removed the centre graduated filter to achieve a bit of vignetting.

Looking closely you'll see the telegraph poles/wires disappear into the horizon - bleak!

There is a famous town in the region called Bourke, which is the "gateway" to the outback. That area had not seen rain in nearly 10 years and the population progressively desert what was a thriving regional town. More recently they had the largest rainfall ever recorded - the flooded area was nearly the size of Britain!

Up river the floods reached a maximum height of 13.8 metres - yes, thirteen point eight metres flood height! And no one complained!

This is the entrance to the national park at Bourke.

OK, WELL I'M DEFEATED - THE PAPERCLIP WILL NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS FORM AND INSTEAD OPENS THE HOME PAGE!

I'LL POST THE IMAGE SOME OTHER TIME - SORRY BUT I HAVE TRIED FOR LONG ENOUGH NOW.

Really my kind of landscape.. need to plan a trip to Australia. One of these things due for a *looong* time unfortunately. This year it is not going to happen, plan is to go (again) to the US Midwest. With the XPan, amongst others :)
