50mm f4 Lens Problem

Hi there,

Recently bought a pristine 500 EL/M as my dad's old 500 EL went bust.

After trying all the lenses we own we found a problem with the 50mm lens.

It is possible to see through the viewfinder however the shutter does not fire. Found out after half a roll of 0 exposure on some frames!

After reading up some articles online I have found out that this might mean that a spring needs replacing in the lens.

Does anyone have any idea how much the spring and repair would cost (UK?) and whether it would be worth it?

You are on the right track: the mainspring of the Distagon lens is probably gone.

There are two options.

1. Hasselblad UK in Elstree will service the lens but they will mention their service is limited due to lack of spares.
The spring is no problem it is the same part as used in later lenses and therefore still available.

2. An independant repairshop with good Hasselblad knowledge and what is more a better supply of parts for your lens.
The independant specialist will be less expensive as well.
