Dear members,

the photoindustry crashes, sales continue to go down for all big brands. Canon predicts that in 2020 there will be only around 12 million camera sold - all brands togther (in 2012 this was around 100 million). That drop sounds crazy, especially compared to 1,8 billion smartphones sold in 2018. So the numbers for the camera industry look very negative.

On Photokina 2020, some of the big camera brands will not have a booth there anymore. Nikon, Leica and Olympus will not be there. Who knows, which other brand will join that list. The signs on the wall could not be bigger on how the whole industry changes.

As hobby photographers and professionals, we see all this not negative. For us it is not just about sales numbers. It is about taking pictures. We do not need a new camera or big photo fairs to make images, show them, share them, discus them or to meet other photographers.

We have us. We have the internet and we have photocommunity forums like MediumFormat.family.

This is why we continue with MediumFormat.family and our other photocommunity called Camera-info.com. We even do expand our offers with another photocommunity focused on Smartphones.

All of us do use smartphones. And many among us do use smartphones also for taking pictures. We know that MediumFormat.family might not be the place where you would like to share those pictures or talk about smartphones.

So this is why we launched a new community forum called www.shotonsmartphone.com.

You all are invited to visit this new smartphone community, participate in it if you want to and recommend it to your friends, who might not use MediumFormat but smartphones only for taking pictures

Last but not least, we also launched specific for Smartphones and multimedia gadgets around smartphones a news & rumor site called www.smartphonerumor.com.

If you want to know, what is going on in the smartphone industry, what new models come up and how good they are already for taking pictures or to do other stuff, you should definetely visit both sites regularly.
