Hi, anyone has any experience with the metz niCd battery pack 45-40?

I got one second hand, seems fine but should it be charged for how long? does it have to be completely depleted before charging?

thanks so much

All NiCd batteries must be totally empty before being recharged. Otherwise the cells loose more and more capacity over time.

I do not have the manual of my 45CT handy, but I think I recall something like 5 hours charging time.

You might want to check the manual from Metz

The Metz manual states 4 hours to charge empty NiCad for the 45 series.
Charging a littel longer does not cause harm.

To discharge leave the 45 unit switched on for a day.
That should take the rest of the energy out of the batteries.

If you have no idea about the history of these batteries it may help to charge and discharge the battery pack several times.

I have never been very lucky with these battery packs.
They seem to live less than a year with me.
For extra power and shorter charge times I use a Quantum pack.
That gives me similar power reserve and charge times to the Metz 60 series flashes.

Hi Paul, can you pont me to the right Quantum pack model? and any extra cables?

cheers

I will have to dig one up in my crate with flash equipment.
There is a new and a used one as far as I remember both complete with connecting cords to the Metz 45 torches.
