The Metz manual states 4 hours to charge empty NiCad for the 45 series.
Charging a littel longer does not cause harm.
To discharge leave the 45 unit switched on for a day.
That should take the rest of the energy out of the batteries.
If you have no idea about the history of these batteries it may help to charge and discharge the battery pack several times.
I have never been very lucky with these battery packs.
They seem to live less than a year with me.
For extra power and shorter charge times I use a Quantum pack.
That gives me similar power reserve and charge times to the Metz 60 series flashes.
I will have to dig one up in my crate with flash equipment.
There is a new and a used one as far as I remember both complete with connecting cords to the Metz 45 torches.
