4*4 magnification Prisma?

Hi

I've considered getting the DPS 4*4 magnifier, but I have a hard time getting used to the reversed angle the waistfinder gives.

So, are there any 4*4 magnified Prismas to get? I'm using a Hbl 503 cwd.

If you have a prism view finder for your 503, you might consider adding an Accurfocus AFD5 magnifier over the eye piece.

Hasselblad made two different loupes: one for the PM(E) 3-51 prisms and another for the PM(E) 45.

Keep in mind magnification is for the center section of the image only.
These loupes are hinged and can be folded away to view the full image.

Hi

But what kind of magnification will I get? Will the 4*4 edge cropped area fill the whole magnification? Or will there still be surface outside the capturing area?

What I want to do, just to make it clear, is to get a capturing area that is 4*4 (the sensor size), without the surface outside the actual capture area, and get it in right angle.
Sort of like a normal 35mm viewer.

The sensor size is smaller than the 4x4 area.
I am not sure how much the loupe shows.

I have not got a mask to check the area for the CFV but I can check what part of the 4x4 is shown when using a 42459 loupe.
That loupe is used for all 45° prisms untill the PM(E) 45.

I have the 4x4 and the loupe with PM45...but not the CFV !

The 4x4 is 5.5 magnification the PM45 is 2.5x and the poupe is 2.5x.

The loupe is heigh quality stuff, but I use it to focus my 90mm 2.0 with the Leica M8 !
Not practical but powerfull. I dislike the PM45+ loupe. Perhaps there ar too many lenses to get light effect. With the loupe you get only the center that good for focusing on tripod but that all.

The 4x4 is realy a pleasur to use. Lot of bright light and eazy to focus out of the center too. With the 4x4 you will not see all of the 56x56mm but inside of a circle that allmost cover 56mm diameter. As I use a 202FA I need to watch at the top of the viewfinder. So the 4x4 is not a street issue for me. With the loupe and the 4x4 you cann adjust dioptry and that help if you have difficultie at the end of the day...like me.

I cann imagine thet the 4x4 is ideal viefinder for CWD. The 4x4 was calibrated for 40mmx40mm view so for 38x38mm it must not be bad.

Be careful with the 110mm 2.0 and 4x4 outside, it's like to watch a long time the moon with a telescope without filter, your eye will be over lighted !

"Funny" to see that Hasselblad do not offer this viewfinder for sale, as this viewfinder is the ideal stuff for CWD.
Almost impossible to find it on second hand now.

So You don't get the same view with the 4*4 Waistfinder compared to the PME 45 with loupe?

I didnt really understand the difference. I guess the 4*4 is like the normal waist finder , but with higher magnification.

But, how is that compared with the PME 45 with loupe ?

The PME with loupe gives a higher magnification but will not show the 4x4 area you can see in the (0°) straight 4x4 finder.

Once you get used to the L/R reverse the 4x4 finderw ill be the best choice.
Believe me everybody had the L/R problem it just takes a while to get used to that. Sofar everybody has managed and so will you.

The 4x4 DPS finder was discontinued about three years ago, partnumber is 72534
The same goes for the Finder HM2. That is also a 0° finder with lower magnification 3,3 times instead of 5,5 times for the DPS.

At the moment no DPS viewer for sale at all large specialist sellers that I know.
I have a new HM 2 with part number 72524 for sale. Contact me PM if you think that viewer may help.

I bought one of the Brightscreen magnifiers on Ebay recently for about $45 US. I thought I was getting a great deal. Not quite. It's ok, but I'd rate it as one step better than crap. It only magnifies about 2x, has a very tiny viewing area, and there is extreme chromatic aberration when viewing at any angle other than straight in. As such, it doesn't get used nearly as much as I anticipated it would.

I've just contacted my Hassy dealer to look it up.

They managed to get it the last time I asked them , but at that time I wanted to try out the custom magnifying piece.

I can imagine that with the 4*4 piece the WF will be huge :)

Michael,

The magnification from a Hasselblad 42459 loupe is slightly better.
That loupe shows part of the image but does not have the problems with chromatic aberration.

The loupe with the PM is like watching the tv from your neighbour with a telescope: It's great enought but you only see the center. The 4x4 is like to be in a cinema but to close to the screen: you cann see details and you cann turn the head to watch almost all part of the screen.

I ordered my 4*4 magnifier today, got it for 340$ with shipping.

I was looking a bit at the Phase P25, just to get my fisheye to work.
But, I finally found out that it wasn't worth it.
I'll get about 16.5 mm measured in analog 135, with about 165degree coverage, which isn't good enough.
I'll just have to wait for a FF 6*6 sensor, and until then I'll stick with the CFV which produces Wonderful images. There's just something else with those files.
